John Mayer singing "The Eraser"

This one you MUST HEAR. John Mayer sings his new song "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" (a beautiful love ballad) and at the end he includes a few lines from "The Eraser" by Thom Yorke. AMAZING!

The more you try to erase me
The more, the more
The more that I appear
Oh the more, the more

+ Slow Dancing in a Burning Room (outro The Eraser)
+ Alternate link

REPOSTED AFTER LOTS OF REQUESTS!

** Thanks to Carrie for the recording and to Julia for sharing it on greenplastic.com

Well that was pretty pointless really... Downright plagiarism, I'd say! Silly John Mayer and his ludicrous whims, I'll ruffle his hair for him, eh? Um....

music is meant to be interpeted. and everyone interpets music in a different way, what's wrong with john using a few of thom's lines? thom wouldn't put music out there if he didnt want people to connect with it. it's not like he ripped the whole song off and passed it off as one of his own. and john mayer happens to be a very talented musician in his own respect.

thom is a quite good. meyer isnt to his standard. but fair dues to the guy for tryin

Leave the talent to Radiohead and Pop music to American Idol.

John Mayer has once again defiled the sacred altar of Radiohead. Well, less Radiohead this time than Thom Yorke specifically, but this guy has gone too far. He rates in my pantheon of musical artists who have reached the stage of musical bullshit. Included in said pantheon, by the way, is Dave Matthews, whose musical treachery has not yet reached the level of John Mayer.

I really can't stand all this john mayer bashing. He is a great songwriter, and an incredible musician with his own unigue style of guitar playing. I love radiohead too, but the problem with many RH fans is they get snobbish about music and act like RH is the only good band in the world. Radiohead is great, but, tey arent the only ones? Long live John Mayer and Radiohead!

john mayer could never compare to thom.
i really think his musics crap also.

it's always nice to hear anyone recognize radiohead or thom for their talents. even if it comes from john mayer, it remains a compliment.

sad state of affairs. john mayer is a shitty musician and for him to think he could pull off anything radiohead is well, sad. the radiohead version of kid a is unique to radiohead. JM does it a dis-service.

john mayer is actually a pretty good musician, very skilled guitar player...douche.

Hell yeah, good to see Mayer showing Thom some love. I've seen both Radiohead and Mayer in concert in multiple settings and venues, and can vouch that anyone bashing John Mayer either lacks knowledge of music or no knowledge of Mayer's music outside of their local pop radio station. Diehard Radiohead fans don't base their opinion around "High And Dry", so don't base your opinion on Mayer from "Your Body Is A Wonderland". If his early stuff doesn't sit well with the mind, then check out the John Mayer Trio (blues) or download a show from the Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters 2005 tour. Seeing him play side-by-side with Herbie at Bonnaroo gave me a whole new level of respect for him as a fellow guitarist.

To me, Mayer is like the little kid that hangs out with all the big kids. Thom is just one of the greats that he's taken off. Thom just happens to be the best.

Look, I love Radiohead, they are my favorite band. Whether John Mayer is a good songwriter, I won't defend. I personally don't find his songwriting all that great. However, he can play about 95 percent of guitarists under the table, and probably close to 99.9 percent of all guitarists at his age. So right there, anyone saying he is a shitty musician is so far off its incredible. Its time people start accepting Mayer because I have a feeling we'll still be hearing him 20 years from now.

The Kid A cover is a great re-interpretation. The Eraser outro is a pretty cool thing to do. Anyone pulling this "Mayer's ruining the sanctity of RH" needs to re-evaluate. Besides, The Eraser is the worst Radiohead release in a long time.

the kid a cover is interesting in this acoustic way.

Props to John Mayer. I wouldn't have listened to his music if I didn't read this post about him playing THE ERASER. Maybe he'll get a few more fans from playing RH music. You know we are fanatical like that, dontcha?

"Anyone pulling this "Mayer's ruining the sanctity of RH" needs to re-evaluate. Besides, The Eraser is the worst Radiohead release in a long time."
John Mayer probably likes Radiohead just as much as anyone of us. Therefore covering/taking from their works. Hell, if music that I wrote wasnt in the same genre as my favorite band, wouldn't I still have some kind of right to recreate some of their shite? The Eraser is very forgetable. A couple of standouts amongst Amnesiac b-sides.

"The Eraser is the worst Radiohead release in a long time"

The Eraser is not a Radiohead release.

Thom Yorke ≠ Radiohead ≠ Thom Yorke.

kid a was always a more forgetable radiohead song. so many greats on that album alone to pick from and j.m. hits that one. oh well.

i think its wonderful for john to quote the eraser. its bringin together the different styles and fabn bases. keep up the good work john...

Thanks a lot for posting this. I think JM does an amazing job on Kid A. He got it right, from the pulse of the bass drum on his guitar, to the emotion in his voice, you can tell he's a Radiohead fan for sure. It's just perfect.

both files (JM - Kid A and SlowDancing+Eraser) are gone. anyone have a mirror?

wow, some of you guys are stupid as hell. Radiohead is amazing music, some of the best ever made. John Mayer is really good music too, and he is a skilled musician. Open your musicial boundaries people. This wasn't ripping of Thom or disrespecting him or anything. If anything, it was an homage to another great songwriter. I'd say that Thom would think it was really cool that Mayer threw this in, and it's done really well, transplanting the Eraser lyrics of Slow Dancing's chord progression.
